Itinerary - Kilimanjaro Serengeti Safari (10 Days)
Day 1 | Machame Gate to Machame Camp
This is the moment you've been waiting for: your Tanzanian safari starts here. You have so much to look forward to and we'll get your trip underway as soon as we give you an introduction to our team and explain what lies ahead.
The best views of Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest mountain, may be from Kenya, but it's here in Tanzania where you actually get to climb it. The forests and small villages in the lower foothills soon give way to thinning crowds and more open country as the slopes steepen.
🏕️ MACHAME CAMP (Mountain Hut)

Day 2 | Machame Camp to Shira Camp 1
We think you'll enjoy Shira Camp 1, which inhabits a plateau at 3810m and sees fewer travelers than many other Kilimanjaro campsites. There are no facilities here, but you should be able to see Kilimanjaro's Kibo summit north-east from your tent, and Mount Meru to the west.
Although there are no trees, the scrubby vegetation adds a tinge of green to the landscape.

Day 3 | Shira Camp 1 to Barranco Camp
You can see the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro from Barranco Camp (3983m). It's a stirring backdrop to the campsite, and its high snows are a contrast to the bare, dry landscape that surrounds you here, high above the tree line.
Barranco lies along a number of climbing routes, including the popular Machame Route, so there are always lots of people in camp to share experiences with.
🏕️ BARRANCO CAMP (Camping)
🍽️ BREAKFAST, LUNCH & DINNER
Day 4 | Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
There's a wild and beautiful feel to staying at Karanga Camp, which sits at an altitude of 3995m, high on Mt Kilimanjaro. There are no trees here and the surrounding alpine desert landscape is stunning.
You can also see the mountain's summit from here, and there's plenty of room for everyone's tent. Lots of other climbers pass through here.
🏕️ KARANGA CAMP (Camping)
🍽️ BREAKFAST, LUNCH & DINNER
Day 5 | Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
When you stay at Barafu Camp, at an altitude of 4681m on Mt Kilimanjaro, you're surrounded by a landscape where nothing grows and the views extend out across the mountain's high and treeless valleys.
'Barafu' means 'ice' in Swahili and it's always cold up here, as well as beautiful. Enjoy talking with the other climbers who've reached this milestone.
🏕️ BARAFU CAMP (Mountain Hut)
🍽️ BREAKFAST, LUNCH & DINNER
Day 6 | Summit Day - Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Summit day! Early morning ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) - Africa's highest point and the roof of the continent. After celebrating your incredible achievement at the summit, descend to Mweka Camp (3060m).
You know you're on the way down when you stay at Mweka Camp. Here you can start to breathe a little easier, and there's always a good feeling with other climbers happy and excited to be on the way down.
🏕️ MWEKA CAMP (Camping)
🍽️ BREAKFAST, LUNCH & DINNER
Day 7 | Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate - Transfer to Karatu
Complete your descent through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificates and celebrate this incredible achievement! Transfer to Karatu for rest and preparation for the safari portion.
While in Karatu you'll be staying at Karatu Tented Lodge, which lies along the main road between Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater. The facilities include a swimming pool, bar and restaurant.

Day 8 | Transfer to Serengeti National Park
If you haven't fallen in love with Tanzania by the time you reach the Serengeti, then this is the place that will make it happen. This UNESCO World Heritage–listed park is simply extraordinary, with its savannah grasslands that seem like they go on forever.
Big lion prides stalk the riverbanks. Solitary leopards watch the world go by from the fork of a tree. Cheetahs streak across the plains in pursuit of a gazelle. You will probably also see elephants, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, buffaloes and spotted hyenas.
🏕️ ZURI CAMP, SERENGETI (Tented Camp)
🍽️ LUNCH & DINNER
Day 9 | Full Day Serengeti National Park
You'll get to know the Serengeti and its colorful cast of characters even better with another day immersed in its wild beauty. This UNESCO World Heritage park offers unparalleled wildlife viewing opportunities.
